Gemma Kelmanson

Having been taught to sew as a teenager by my mother, I began to explore textiles and textile art more broadly as an adult, through participation in a variety of short courses. This led to me taking the City and Guilds Creative Embroidery Diploma, which I completed in 2015.

I find inspiration in the textures, colours and patterns found in the natural world - well known, often walked local paths; the wilder landscapes of high hills; coastal landscapes; ever changing, but remaining familiar. I am drawn to taking a closer look at the patterns of rocks, colours of lichens, textures of bark.

Being a Textilia 3 member has allowed me to continue to explore and develop my practice in a truly supportive environment and in a creative way, benefitting from the wealth of experience and different approaches brought by fellow members.

There are also deadlines......
